Snake Park

A snake we saw at the snake park...it's poisonous but I forget its name

Baby crocodile, might be blind in one eye?

A vulture who was not happy to see us

Me holding a NON-poisonous snake

Mounting our camels! It was very high. You can also see Mt. Meru in the background!

Getting down was a little awkward

My camel and its father

Smiling with the camel!

Our Second Visit to Mt. Meru Hospital

We found a kitten at Mt. Meru hospital! He helped us fix things all day. His name is Tangawizi (ginger)

We fixed a scale! And later I fixed a blood pressure cuff/pump. All with Tangawizi's help

Whoops found another kitten! I must be a cat magnet. The other cat's name is Dora because she was a nosy littler explorer with all the equipment around today

Tangaru Market

The class took a field trip to the local market for our Swahili haggling lesson. Oriane and I bought all these mboga (vegetables) and matunda (fruit) for 11200 Shillings. Equivalent to $5.70! Amazing.

More Home Life

Power outages are frequent, when they happen we do homework by Kerosine lamp

Our kaka (brother) has 2 white rabbits in addition to Poli, his cat

Oriane and I made salad with LOTS of avocado! So fresh

Making coconut (nazi) shavings the Tanzanian way. I'm sitting on a stool with a sharp attachment specially made for coconut shaving. With these we made coconut milk and used it for our cooked beans!

Swahili Class and Engineering Lab

My Swahili class, the "advanced" group. Kisanji is our mwalimu (teacher). Best class ever!!!

The extension cord we made for future use at the hospital

A flashlight we made, very simple

Very simple, yet very bright!

First Day at Mt. Meru Hospital

The scrub crew: Me, Oriane, Keerthighan, Laura.

Inside an oxygen concentrator

While trying to fix an oxygen concentrator, it caught on fire! Miguel our coordinator had to put it out!

Lauren, Ray, and I fixed the operating room lamp used for surgeries!

Simba, the Class Cat

Simba ("lion" in Swahili), the 3 week old kitten we rescued from the wall of our classroom

She was a very scared and loud kitten!

Simba was adopted by a family friend of our home-stay mother
